Subject: Beau/LSW database problem
I'm not sure who handles these problems, but we're having issues
accessing information from LaLibCon page -- namely Career Cruising.
I'll describe our sitation(s) below. All apply from in-house users
trying to access the LaLibCon page via the route described below -- I
have not heard from home-users about their experiences yet.
Access route: Visit library.beau.org / Click "Online Research" / Click
"Free Database Access." Currently, even in-house users are required to
enter a library card number to go any further (we're still working to
clear up some IP changes we recently made to fix this).
Here's what's happening:
1) Enter LaLibCon with a Beauregard Parish Library Card number (B000001)
and everything works fine in Career Cruising.
2) Enter LaLibCon with a Libraries Southwest Card number issued by any
Libraries Southwest member library EXCEPT Vernon PL (can use
29962200012345 for BPL issued or 29962100012345 for other (Allen PL)
issued card). Click on Career Cruising and you are asked to log in with
a Username/Password, but are not given the option to create a log-in.
Clicking on the "Forgot your username and password? Click here." link
brings up a small pop-up window saying to use your organization's
username and password. Is there a system-wide log-in we should be
sharing with our patrons? If so, how are other libraries passing out
that information to patrons trying to access the resource during closed
3) Enter LaLibCon with a Libraries Southwest Card number issued by
Vernon PL (will look like 29962600012345). You will be asked if you are
using a Libraries Southwest card or a Vernon Parish Library card. If
you select Libraries Southwest, you have the same problem as in
situation (2) above when you try to access Career Cruising. If you
select Vernon Parish Library, you can access Career Cruising with no
As you can see, this is WAY too complex to try to explain to all our
patrons. You have my (and our patrons'!) appreciation in advance for
helping us sort through and fix this lack of access.
