Dear Partner,

Last October, OverDrive announced the sunset of the WMA format for audiobooks and music. As part of this update, the WMV video format will also be retired. The sunset of these formats is part of our continuous effort to improve OverDrive’s ease of use, provide the widest compatibility across devices, and reduce support requests for your library.

OverDrive’s publisher relations team continues to work closely with a few remaining publishers to provide MP3 audiobooks, music, and streaming video equivalents for the titles in your collection. These publishers are reviewing and updating contracts, particularly on the backlist titles, to add these permissions. As a result, we are extending our original timeline for the sunset of the WMA and WMV formats.
The updated timeline is as follows:

Ongoing

 * As MP3 or streaming video permissions are added, these formats are automatically added to existing titles in your collection.
 * Local Content audiobook titles you may have uploaded in WMA will be converted to MP3 by OverDrive, where possible. For Local Content video titles currently available in WMV, please contact your OverDrive Account Specialist for additional information about streaming video support.
March 2015

 * WMA format will no longer be sold in OverDrive Marketplace. After March 2, you will not be able to place any additional purchase orders for WMA Audiobook content. Please note, new purchases of WMA music and WMV videos have already been disabled.
May 2015

 * WMA and WMV formats will be removed from your collection. Any titles where an MP3 or streaming video equivalent are not available will be permanently weeded.
 * OverDrive will provide a list of the weeded titles—so that you may manage your MARC records if necessary—as well as details for the titles that were removed.
 * Related articles at OverDrive Help<http://www2.overdrive.com/e/28502/2015-02-25/2bbwd6/459112825> will be updated accordingly.

Please contact your library’s OverDrive Account Specialist if you have any questions.

Regards,
OverDrive Partner Services
