Hi everyone,

I am happy to go with the majority opinion. Do we need to vote on it?

LibSW has continued to be flexible on many other topics. Why can’t we consider two even at this point in time?

If the two scholarships total close to what one scholarship offers or even costs a bit more…….we have plenty of money ………….I agree with whomever suggested that two be awarded.

What is the total cost for two scholarships? Now that we have the rubric, it should also be considered.be considered.

Another thought…..the larger libraries have degreed employees , some with MLIS. Our smaller libraries have few degreed people. I have only one degreed person……an Accountant.

Our people are trained and do an excellent job…..the State Library assures additional training.

The LSSC was put into effect to address the need for further certification for people like the employee from Evangeline and other small library systems. It met a need the State Library also determined to be valuable.

With that being said, I will also appreciate the democratic process and go with the majority.

Hi everyone,

At one point, I had a rubric for evaluating these scholarship applications, but I cannot find it. In my mind, the criteria we should consider should include the following:

- Is application packet complete?

- Do the letters of reference speak highly of this person?

- Does this person represent their library well?

Now, about the issue of 1 or 2 scholarships...until today, we have operated with the understanding that we will award one scholarship this year. I am not comfortable making the decision to double our expenses by awarding two scholarships so close to the announcement date, and I don't think it's a good idea to decide at the last minute via email. Mary, I appreciate your feelings about the support staff being left out in this situation, and I think that's worth taking into consideration next year.

Further, I am curious about the money we will raise from the Author Dinner this year. I think that should impact our decision next year about whether or not we should double our scholarship expense.

Are there strong objections to awarding just one scholarship this year?

According to the application, both types of students are equally eligible. I guess that’s why I’m wondering what we’re basing our decision on.

Barbara and everybody, I see Barbara’s point and wouldn’t at all argue with her vote, which has a lot of concrete support in the application. However, please consider: This is the second year that support staff certification candidates or candidate went up against MLIS candidates or candidate. If it goes yet again to the MLIS person, will there be any support staff ones who bother to apply next time around, or will it become MLIS by default?

Just my two cents on the way out the door. Again, I support giving two scholarships.
