Public Services Librarian/Instructor
Frazar Memorial Library/Department of Public Services
McNeese State University invites qualified applicants for the position of Public Services Librarian/Instructor in the Frazar Memorial Library/Department of Public Services. This is a full-time, 12–month, unclassified, non-tenure-track position. The appointment begins November 19, 2018.
Position Description and Responsibilities:
The Public Services Librarian/Instructor is responsible for functions related to:

  *   Advocate library services across campus.
  *   Participates in the library’s liaison program.
  *   Plans and conducts library orientations, classes on information literacy, and workshops.
  *   Guide faculty in identifying, adopting, and assessing affordable textbook alternatives (OAR).
  *   Create resources and deliver workshops on affordable course content.
  *   Track OAR adoptions across campus, calculate savings, and disseminate to broader campus community.
  *   Prepares special materials, reports, study guides, and related materials.
  *   Maintains current awareness of changes and trends in libraries and librarianship through reading the professional literature; attending conferences, professional meetings, and workshops; completing additional coursework; engaging in scholarship; and contributing to the library profession.
  *   Provide reference service and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors through various modes (face-to-face, email, phone, chat, text, etc.).
  *   Contribute to the improvement of library programs and services.
  *   Demonstrated commitment to excellent service and ability to work successfully in a collegial environment within a diverse community that includes: faculty, students, library staff, and other members of the university community, members of the profession, and the general public.
  *   Committee work (department, college and university)
  *   Provide backup coverage for circulation functions.
  *   Participate in commencement ceremonies each semester
  *   Observe and comply with state and institutional policies and procedures
  *   Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:

  *   Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution. Ability to communicate effectively and work collegially with library patrons and staff; effective oral and written communication skills required.
  *   Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology.
  *   Skill and comfort in preparing and conducting presentations with a variety of audiences.
  *   Ability to work well with library patrons and staff;
  *   Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage a diverse workload, and meet deadlines.
  *   Maintains public services desk duties during weekend, evening, and other specified times
  *   Sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around the Library and retrieve and carry materials from library shelving and cabinets, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 35 lbs), ability to work with keyboard, mouse, and monitor for extended periods of time; ability to travel to attend training workshops, meetings, and conferences.
  *   The University Policy Page serves as one guideline for policies and procedures.  Faculty are expected to support institutional commitment to academics, student success, fiscal responsibility and community partnerships.


Preferred:

  *   Coursework, training, and/or experience in the field of education.
  *   Experience in an academic library
  *   Knowledge and experience in promoting and working with open access (OA) resources such as the Louisiana Board of Regents’ Affordable Learning LOUISiana and e-textbooks initiatives.

Salary:
$42,000
