The Library has two new services that you may be interested in and two up-coming free computer training classes.

The Vernon Parish Library is happy to offer two new e-book collections for children. Links for each of these are on the Library’s home page (www.vernon.lib.la.us) at the top of the page. Links are also located on our home page, reference tab, under TumbleBooks at bottom of page.

TumbleReadables is a collection of on-line read-along titles in categories such as Graphic Novels, Early Readers, Chapter Books, Teen Fiction, Classics, and Drama/Poetry.

The Read-Alongs highlight the sentences as they are narrated aloud, turn the page automatically, and offer the ability to customize your screen by changing the font size and screen/text color, to name just a few options.

Read-Alongs are great for emergent, struggling, and reluctant readers. With a fun, stylish interface, Read-Alongs will also appeal to accomplished readers who are excited to follow along to the narration of their favorite books.

The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books) with fiction, non-fiction, Read-Alongs (chapter books with sentence highlighting and narration but no animation), TumbleTV which consists of pre-set play-lists of a sequence of books, and Tumble Puzzles & Games.

E-BOOKS ARRIVE AT VERNON PARISH LIBRARY
Vernon Parish Library announces that e-books have arrived and are ready for download. Provided by the State Library of Louisiana, the Vernon Parish Library now offers more than 1,200 e-books for downloading and many more that can be read in a browser. In addition, patrons may download from a catalog of more than 200 audio books. Up to five e-books and five audio books may be checked out at a time.
Titles are primarily non-fiction, for both adult and young readers.
After two weeks, the e-book or audio book automatically expires from the device, thus eliminating the possibility of overdue fines. The State Library of Louisiana makes this free service available after public library directors requested it.
To access these materials outside the library, a patron must use a Vernon Parish Library card to log onto http://lalibcon.state.lib.la.us/.
This service is provided to Louisiana residents through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute’s mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.
