[Vplmail] New service and Author Program

The Vernon Parish Library will begin offering a new service, Hoopla
Digital, Monday, January 4, 2015. This service offers thousands of movies,
television shows, music albums and audiobooks, all available for mobile and
online access through a Hoopla Digital (hoopladigital.com). Patrons can
begin enjoying thousands of titles, from major Hollywood sutdios, record
companies and publishers, available to borrow for instant streaming or
temporary downloading to their smartphones, tablets and computers. Free
apps for Android and Apple devices are available. A valid Vernon Parish
Library card is all that is required to take advantage of this new program.


Other digital programs include Zinio, which offers 95 popular magazines
available free for borrowing online. Titles include National Geographic,
US, Time, Working Woman, Popular Mechanics and many more.


Freegal is a free service providing thousands of songs that may be
downloaded and kept. Many different types of music is available, including
the complete Sony Library of music.



The Vernon Parish Library will host local author, Chris Sampayo, Tuesday,
Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. Mr. Sampayo will present a program and will autograph his
books.


Christopher St. John Sampayo is originally from Louisiana. He graduated in
1997 from Pickering High School, and went on to attend Northwestern State
University. He currently lives in San Antonio, Texas. In 2005 he started
writing plays that were produced at various locations in the San Antonio
area. He later went on to start his own theater company where he produced
and directed his own plays.  He currently has 3 books available. They are
Haunting of Rosehaven, Ghosts of Glass, and Fields of Frozen Stars. He is
working on his fourth book, scheduled to be available in 2015.
