Louis,

On the rhel cd's you will not find all the dev packages you need to
build the distribution. Luckily you can build all the missing dev 
packages yourself by rebuilding the appropriate src rpms.
Once you have rebuilded all the missing dev rpms you will be able to
rebuild the whole src rpm tree.
Kudos for the folks at Red Hat for their commitment to the opensource
community.. At SUSE they could take that as an example..
Probably you would like to tweak the comps.xl because otherwise you
would have a bloathed install. I wonder when Red Hat will begin
using something better than RPM.. because it sucks.
