Subject: question about kernel on Respin 1 install cds & 3-ware =
drivers
I've been having no luck whatsoever when trying to get the drivers for =
3-ware 9500 disk controllers to load during the WBEL 3.0 x86_64 Respin 1 =
install. I can install to an ide drive, reboot, load a driver =
(3w-9xxx.o) and then access my sata drives just fine. But trying to =
install directly to the sata drives is a no-go.
Poking around I discovered a few things. If I drop back to RC1 instead =
of Respin 1, the driver loads as expected and I can install directly to =
the sata drives. I realize that is an earlier version kernel, but I have =
the driver source and recompiled for the 2.4.21-15.EL kernel. No help.
Also noticed that during the Respin 1 install, getting an Alt-F2 =
command line screen as soon as it will let me, uname -r reports that I =
am running 2.4.21-15.EL, as I would expect. But uname -m (or uname -a) =
reports that I am running an SMP kernel, which is not what I was =
expecting. I've tried various permutations of .config files and =
modifying the EXTRAVERSION in the base system Makefile, but none of the =
resulting drivers load and work properly with the install cd. No problem =
getting them to work on an already installed system.
I'm a bit of a Linux n00b and I don't have the corresponding RH =
version to compare to, but I'm thinking the install kernel may be a bit =
broken.
Anything I'm missing here?
