Whatever non-RHEL kernel you'll grab, you'll run into issues, since many 
changes have gone into the RHEL-based kernels. If you're sure it's a bug in 
the RHEL kernel, you might be better off installing the RHEL kernel source, 
patch the specific driver file(s) and recompile the kernel that way.

That also means many of the performance improvements will not get lost, since 
those aren't in the official 2.4.x kernels.
