Those block device error messages are a bit strange.  According to
/usr/src/linux-2.4/doc/devices.txt block device 65-68 are used for SCSI
devices 16-79.

Do you have the kernel-unsupported package installed?  It may have some
additional modules you need that aren't installed with the supported
kernel.
