At the present moment it will not support i586 class CPU's.  A couple of 
plans are under discussion to bring CentOS to i586 class systems.

We hope this occurs with the upcoming U4 release by RedHat.

However it maybe possible to migrate your system to CentOS and maintain 
your existing i586 kernel.  Would you be interested in trying on a test 
system?
