I have no clue on the best way to do this - my laptop got the apt-get for 
RPM from freshrpms.net, followed by apt-getting xine from them.  Then a 
bit of digging for the codecs.  *blerg*

I'm sure if I'd played around, up2date could have done it for me, adding 
freshrpms.net as a new channel somehow...  But I'm lazy.
