I had a rockerraid card for a while, but ended up going with software raid.
Every time a kernel change comes out, you will have to rebuild the kernel
with your raid card drivers in it.  I could never get it rebuilt with the
right drivers.  I have scripts that check my raid and will alert me if a
drive fails.  Best of all, does not cost anything.
