I have recently finished testing on a backup script that makes use of dump
and tar -cvjpf... it scp's the final tarball over to a dedicated server. 
There's quite a bit of ssh setup required (authorized_keys, public keys
that kind of thing... there's how-tos on this all over the place).

If anyone needs it, I'd be happy to provide it.
