I tried looking for what you're talking about and there is no "sources"
location in the path you described.  Here's what's in my "RHN" location:

-rw-r--r--    1 root     root          270 Jan 21 05:20 rhn-applet

-rw-------    1 root     root         1160 Sep  9  2002 up2date-keyring.gpg

Also, if up2date doesn't use RHN to update, where does it get it's updates
from?

You should not be connecting to RHN anyway.  Edit your
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources file to comment out the "up2date default" line.
 This will prevent you from trying to connect to RHN.
