Been there done that.  I've got kde-integrated, java-enabled builds 
available from the kde-redhat project, if you'd like a starting point 
(at least):

ftp://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/all/SRPMS.stable/openoffice.org-1.1.1-4.1.kde.src.rpm
