Helio,

Here is how the process works.

WhiteBox Enterprise Linux (WBEL) is a distro built exclusively from
RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Source RPMs (SRPMS). This is in
accordance with the policies as set forth at the RedHat site (
http://www.redhat.com/about/corporate/trademark/index.html ).

The actual RHEL products are updated by an up2date client that only
works for paying RHEL subscribers. Therefore, a new way to do updates
to WBEL had to be developed. That new way was to remove the up2date
supplied by RHEL and add the up2date and yum supplied by Fedora Core 1
(FC1).

The up2date that is in WBEL (supplied by FC1) is different than the
up2date supplied in other redhat products, because it can point to other
than the official repositories. SO, the up2date and yum supplied with
WBEL points to WBEL updated repositories.

John Morris, the WBEL author, builds the SRPMS that RHEL releases for
RHEL and puts them in the WBEL main repository, which distributes the
updates to the WBEL mirrors.

Except for the yum and up2date packages and the trademark edits, WBEL
contains only products available in RHEL. If there are security issues,
they will be fixed by RHEL and released as SRPMS and then John Morris
will download and build the fixes and publish them for WBEL in the WBEL
repositories. Fedora updates will not be added to WBEL ... and updates
of packages (like GNOME to 2.6 or KDE to 3.2) will not be done to WBEL
unless first done to RHEL and released.

Hopefully, I have been able to explain the process and clear up any
issues you didn't understand. If not, please ask for amplification.

-Johnny Hughes
