Hi all,

I have an issue with sendmail (sendmail-8.12.11-4.RHEL3.1)
All mails originating from the server get the following status:

[root@server root]# mailq
                /var/spool/mqueue (4 requests)
-----Q-ID----- --Size-- -----Q-Time-----
------------Sender/Recipient-----------
iAJBJqMr031864 0 Fri Nov 19 11:19 <root@server>
                 (host map: lookup (mydomain.ie): deferred)

If we "dig mydomain.ie aaaa" or "dig mydomain.ie mx" or "dig mydomain.ie a"
We get the appropriate response!

e.g.:
; <<>> DiG 9.2.2 <<>> mydomain.ie a (or mx or aaaa)
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 58843
;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 0

The only entries I changed in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc were as follows:
define(`SMART_HOST',`mailhost.otherdomain.ie')

mailhost.otherdomain.ie has the mx record in mydomain.ie

FYI: mailhost resolves via dnslookups.
The two other changes were as follows:
FEATURE(`accept_unresolvable_domains')dnl
MASQUERADE_AS(`mydomain.ie')dnl

In this config, all mails were waiting in /var/spool/clientmqueue
So we added a line as follows to /etc/mail/submit.cf
O DirectSubmissionModifiers=C

This resulted in messages no longer being as dsn=4.4.3 stat=queued in
/var/log/maillog

But subsequently we now get them being queued in /var/spool/mqueue.

Help me Obi-Wan.
Regards
