But i don't seem to understand how to create a RAID1 config on 2 disks. =
I just want the disks completely mirrored, would that be possible with =
software raid?

Most definitely. While I think the kernel upgrade can be done with the
aarich driver remotely, it might be tricky the first time or two.
I did some bonnie++ tests on a piece of hardware with the aarich
driver, and then reinstalled with software raid. Attached are the
results. Mudpuddle is the aarich driver and mudpuddle2 is software
raid.
Someone with more I/O knowledge than me will have to interpret the
results. To me it looks like a wash. Both ways have their strengths
and weaknesses.
