This looks like you've not updated your system to the spec for the
Oracle version you're trying to install.

Which version? There are different software requirements depending on
the Oracle version; 10g installed for me without a hitch (but I had to
add a number of RPMs to the base WB package, and the default kernel
configuration options weren't right) using the instructions for Red Hat
AS v3 from www.puschitz.com <http://www.puschitz.com/> .There are
similar instructions there for 9i and 8i, I think.

Two "gotcha's" I ran into were (1) passwords can't being with a number
and (2) the WB box must be able to do an "nslookup <my name> which
returns the IP number of the box; I don't know if reverse lookup is
required.

Setting the "sysctl" options took a little figuring out; I posted those
changes here some time ago so a search of this mailing list for 10g will
turn up the sysctl config file I used.
