I guess the question is what you want to do with BitTorrent. The
original BitTorrent (at http://www.bittorrent.com/) should give you
some docs as well as tips for uploaders and downloaders. There is even
an RPM there, although I have not tried it.

Then there is the nice client Azureus that also doubles as server if I
remember correctly. It is written in Java and installation
instructions for Linux can be had at
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/howto_linux.php
