[WBEL-users] Respin 2 update install lost my flash drives

First let me say that I'm well aware that save/clean_install/restore is
the best way to go. But, anyway, I did an upgrade install of respin 2,
followed by "yum update" which picked up a couple of things that I'd
forgotten had been included in the previous (clean) respin 1 install.

Booted up. Can't mount flash drives. Phooey! Loaded usbview--BTW, it's a
NEAT tool. Got the following error message:

"Can not open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices

Verify that you have USB compiled into your kernel,
have the USB core modules loaded, and have the
usbdevfs filesystem mounted."

OK, GRUB will boot me into my old respin 1 kernel. AAWK! It can't mount
them either! Usbview gets the same error.

Hmmmmph! Flash drive access was OK under respin 1 before the respin 2
install, and XP still sees the drives just fine.

1. What happened?

2. What's the fix?

Doing a clean install of respin 2 is no big deal--IF I felt certain that
it then would see my flash drives. However, I REALLY would like to
understand what's happening here.

Anyone have some insight?
