Yep. 

Since the whitebox-release RPM doesn't appear to provide
redhat-release, unless I'm missing something, I've changed releasever
in the yum.conf, installed the createrepo package from DAG, ran that
against my WBEL4 package trees and its working fine.

It's early days yet for EL4, probably just teething trouble that our
installing and testing should help out with. Does vanilla EL even ship
with yum? If not that'll probably be the root cause of the confusion.
