[Whitebox-ia64] Dell 7150???

I pulled down liberation-binary-ia64-1.iso from one of the mirror sites
and tried to boot it on my Dell 7150 Itanic (4 x CPU, 4GB mem, PERC 3/QC).

Linux booted, but crashed when it tried to install the module for the PERC
3/QC. Machine works fine on RH7.2 (but I'd like to get something newer
to run on this beast).

I had similar experiences with TaoLinux.

Is there some magic I'm missing?? If I remove the disk controller, the system
will boot to the install screen, but then complain about not having any hard
disks.

Since the Dell 7150 was the cornerstone of commercial Itanics, I'm having
a hard time believing two modern IA64 dists have never been tested/debugged
on one of these beasts.

The list archives have nothing... I'd appreciate any ideas...
