I recently ran into big issues with a samba share our timeclock software
(part of a larger EHP system) was using (it's based on Extended System's
Advantage database technology)

The solution for me was to add an "oplocks = false" option to the
particulair share. Somehow sometimes two clients tried accessing a certain
file at the same time and the windows machine(s) couldn't get valid file
locks it seemed and thus dropped with various (non-indicative) errors.
