The problem most likely is the PC BIOS. What is happening is that the=20
DSDT and PST table is not reporting properly the ACPI capability of the=20
motherboard. The specific symptoms are improper IRQ mapping, and=20
inoperable power management. Many laptop manufacturers have a crippled=20
BIOS installed. You may be able to find an updated DSDT on the acpi for=20
linux sourceforge page http://acpi.sourceforge.net/ or at least the=20
instructions on how to create your own "repaired" DSDT. I had a similar=20
problem with my Emachines M6805 AMD64 laptop, and a combination of using=20
the 2.6.7 kernel, and a BIOS taken from a later model "same motherboard,=20
better BIOS" fixed my issues both in IRQ mapping, and power management.

Connie,

It worked!! Thanks a lot!! The problem is that the
battery monitor does not, but I'll work around.

Does your motherboard have modem and ethernet? How did
you make them work?

Many thanks again!!!

Marcos.
