I don't see an easy way to shut off output from rc, however, how about
adding a redirect to /dev/null in /etc/inittab?

i.e.
l5:5:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 5 > /dev/null


I have not tried that and it may completely hose init - but it may
actually quiet rc.
