To switch terminals in character based mode, use Alt-F1 through Alt-
F6 ...

In GUI mode ... it is Ctrl-Alt-F1 to Ctrl-Alt-F6 to get to the same
terminals ... and Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get back to GUI....
