good'ol 'kill -9 4142' will probably get rid of kudzu, but there must be 
some kind of hardware issue with your laptop.

if that doesn;t work try:

chkconfig --level 2345 kudzu off

and reboot :) 

I'm sorry we have to reboot linux but sometimes we just have to (eg: 
processes in D state).
