I'm running a 3C509C in a Dell GX110 right now, no problems, but I don't
know why your system would be different.

I am not a fan of the 3C509/59X series. I currently use a lot of Intel
Pro100B and Pro100+ cards, but I have no experience with these under
LINUX (most of my systems are FreeBSD or WinXP Pro).

I have had problems with sharing interrupts on one home system (under
both Win XP Pro and FreeBSD). I eventually juggled cards so that the
ethernet card (Intel Pro100+) was not on a shared interrupt and the
problem went away.
