that "can't locate module ppp0" is scary-sounding, but I see that way to

     I've had problems with pppd terminating if I 'push' the connect
speed to its max.  If I set the speed to 52000 bps, I can sometimes
connect, but it seems unstable and will crash after awhile.  Connecting
at 48800 works fine, though.
     Other than that, try adding the debug flag (see "man pppd") and see
what exit status is output when it hangs up.  (Again, see "man pppd" for
a list of exit status codes.)
