My preferred method is to as root type "XFree86 -configure" which will
create a file called XF86Config.new or something to that effect in the
current directory. Then you can run "XFree86 -xf86config XF86Config.new"
and hopefully it will have autoprobed some modes. Then again Phil's
advice is probably a bit easier.
