If you're using a LCD/TFT monitor, and the res is too low, it'll be 
stretched to fill the screen and generally look somewhat blurry/foggy, 
so try turning the res up a notch too if Joshua's suggestions don't 
help. Most average priced desktop TFT's are generally 1024x768.
