I like the Ultimate Boot CD.  It's got tools for the various HD
manufacturers as well as tests for memory and CPUs.  It also contains
some rescue functions (RIP Linux, etc.).  You'll need to know what hard
drives you have installed to use the hard drive utilities.

Selling Linux to folks can be hard if you've got bad hardware or are
still learning the basics.  I didn't start trying to sell it at work
until I'd been running it at home for a few months and felt comfortable
supporting it.
