[WBEL-users] Samba and XP SP2

The firewall is tweakable but I just can't be bothered to spend ages
adjusting it to make things work like they used to (i.e. Samba). I've
turned the firewall off like you suggest anyway but I turn it on for
public wifi points, hotel modem connections and when working via
Bluetooth through my mobile phone - I'm a roving kind of guy!

The only other weirdness (non-Linux) is that my wife has a directory
viewer/manager utility called Treeview Pro and since we installed XP SP2
on her laptop when she does a printout of a directory listing all the
characters on the printout are reversed - i.e.: 'd' looks like 'b' - the
whole document is laid out OK but every character is flipped on its
vertical axis! EXTREMELY disturbing!

That firewall is something else - I haven't installed SP2 on my wife's
or my work computers for just that reason. Can you define specific
ports to keep open? Running with the XP firewall disabled isn't really
that big of a deal, especially if you had your network otherwise secured

before SP2. Anyway, if you can define specific ports (and the LAN folks

at work indicated that you can), and you want the SP2 firewall, just
define those ports (not sure which ones those are, but I'm sure Google
knows) and you should be good to go.
