What does it do?  Does it kernel panic or do something else?

Maybe it's an overloaded power supply?  If you can't find any other 
reason for the crashes in your system logs or elsewhere, then start 
there.  Weird, unexplainable problems are usually faulty or overloaded 
hardware.
