If you need php, and I wanted to be sure it was a fairly recent version ...

'yum update php' or 'yum update php.i386'

To take care of dependencies...

You may want to tweak yum and add repositories if you don't find what you
need, but that is a separate issue.

I can't think of a reason I would completely un-install apache ...
