I'm having trouble with my new White Box install. I'm trying to get two =
fat32 volumes to mount so I can share them via SMB.
They won't mount automatically, like in other distributions so I did =
some research and found out I can use /etc/fstab or Automount, which is =
also called Autofs?. Is that right?
I read that the fstab option is a drain on system resources so I decided =
to go the Automount route. Upon reading further however It seems to me =
that Automount is for removable media. I don't need a timeout option to =
mount a filesystem on a HDD, right? but I would need it for a CD-Rom.
So I was wondering if I could make an additional line in auto.master to =
refer to a different config file for a different timeout settings.
I've detailed it below and haven't implemented it so let me know if =
there are any errors or If I'm going about this all wrong.

I've discovered that there is an unending supply of documentation on =
Linux, but it all seems to come from the same source, and it either =
doesn't explain things enough or is overly detailed. Most of it seems =
to be documentation for people who already know Linux.

Current config (commented out)

auto.master
/auto /etc/auto.misc --timeout=3D60

auto.misc.
cd -fstype=3Diso9660,ro,nosuid,nodev :/dev/cdrom
volumes -fstype=3Dvfat :/dev/hdg1
media -fstype=3Dvfat :/dev/hdk1

--------------------------------------------------------

What I'd like to do

auto.master:
/auto /etc/auto.misc --timeout=3D60
/auto /etc/auto.smb=20

auto.misc:
cd -fstype=3Diso9660,ro,nosuid,nodev :/dev/cdrom

auto.smb:
volumes -fstype=3Dvfat :/dev/hdg1
media -fstype=3Dvfat :/dev/hdk1
