Here's my suggestion on Gig-E switches:  HP ProCurve.  From all of the
specs I've looked at, these were the fastest.  We use these when
building compute clusters.  The Netgears are also pretty good. 
However, neither are managed.  If you want managed switches you will
pay for it with increased latency.
