I'd suggest getting comfortable with the VMware knowledge base, it's 
public and has a lot of great information. Also the forums.

In this case, KB answer ID 977 probably would solve your problem. See the 
KB item for details, but the gist is add this to your ifcfg-eth0:

check_link_down () {
     return 1;
}
